A huge crowd of about 350 000 people gathered at Barcelona to protest against the independent move of Catalonia on Sunday. Similar rallies were heard in parts of Spain on Saturday.
Some of the notable figured that participated in the protest were former government minister Josep Borrell, who said his fellow Catalans needed to recover their level-headedness, and nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa.
BBC news quoted Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa as saying "You need more than a coup plot to destroy what has been built over 500 years of history,"
